OK. May I share that I can't stand Rick Steves? He has a guest from whatever country he's visiting start saying something about THE PLACE WHERE HE LIVES and ten seconds in Steves interrupts to tell him all the really great things that he, Rick Steves, knows about the place the guy lives. I always end up yelling, "Shut up, Rick!" Let the guy talk! You two would be great hosts!
If possible we also like watching foreign tv, usually getting ready in the morning and evening before bed. Sometimes it's the challenge of figuring out the tv and channels.
This column on watching TV in a foreign country, reminded me of the year I was living and teaching in Bordeaux many years ago. For some reason, I fell into watching the French language version of "Charlie's Angels" (De Drôles de Dames, en français) which I had never watched in back in the States. It was just a lot of fun listening to Farah, "Charlie" and the other Angels solve cases while spouting off dialogue in fluent French - a real hoot! And of course, it was always good practice in perfecting my aural comprehension.
