Wow-- so happy and excited for you! I have not been to Rennes, but it looks wonderful--and your criteria reinforces the visual impression. I set up an exchange program in Le Mans in 207-- I was supposed to go through in a faculty exchange, but couldn't--it was 2017-- but it looks about 45 minutes away-- I don't think it has much charm- unlike Rennes.
Rennes is so ideally located, too-- and the climate looks equally ideal.
I have followed your decision making journey with fascination. I am so glad you both will be somewhere you love and can live the kind of life you want. If only there were more choices like this in the US (obviously we cannot match the wonders of the French language), but a smallish place, filled with interesting people, commerce, transport, etc. And decent health care to boot. I hitched through France from Luxembourg down to Marseille in 1968. I did not go through Rennes. But I loved the whole trip, for many of the same reasons you have listed in your email. Bonne Chance!
If/when we land on the Côte d’Azur, we will be sure to spend a month or two in Brittany in the summer! Here’s to a nice beer/cidre brut/wine together en France!
I'm so glad you are looking for two bedroom place, since I was planning to visit for a week or two (along with my twin cousins and their dogs)
Love your methodical decision-making! Great criteria and great choice! I'm sure you will love your new hometown!

You sure did your due diligence! What a great adventure.

C'était une décision très serrée entre Tours et Rennes!!
Incredible choix. Rennes it is!
Leave the cousins. Bring the dogs.
