Yay, you finally found a positive comment! Keep defending Philly! BTW, our US news has been reporting the terrible riots on France, and the state dep't is warning against travel to France! But we still plan to visit!

Wow, I had never seen the video. I've been to Philly once. If I remember correctly, I had a great night back in 1988. Thought the city was lovely. Thanks for sharing this. It's interesting to learn what others are focusing on.

Thanks, Don, for this--and also to you Theresa, for last week's bean and scrapple!

I wonder if Mare of Easttown (shown in France via Amazon Prime) popularized Kensington's notoriety abroad? Here's Winslett commenting on it for a NYT's interview:

In order to truly understand the opioid epidemic, how its many tendrils can wrap around a place like Easttown, she went to what Philadelphians call “the badlands” — the North Philly neighborhood of Kensington and its open-air drug markets. “We would go in an undercovery type of car and just drive around a lot,” she said.

“I remember seeing — and actually it broke my heart — a man with the most beautiful face and a beard. You could see there was a soul right there. He had been amputated from the knee down on his right leg, and he was injecting into the toes of the other foot.

I suspect the French naysayers regarding Philadelphia would not be pleased to see the Inquirer article about Philadelphia being the most French city!

So, two thoughts. 1) the new Michelin Guide for Philadelphia reported that Philly is the most French city in the US...amazing parks, museums, public art, Ben Franklin Parkway, architecture, distinctive neighborhoods. 2) What in tarnation is going on in Paris right now? https://youtu.be/4NpL_P7U1G4

You might have read my views on that Michelin Guide declaration in my interview in the Inquirer. Some similarities, but, not really!
