Oh! I had forgotten that someone who can cut curly hair is also on my list of skill sets my new hairdresser will have to be able to do! See what happens when you have someone who knows how to make your hair beautiful and your quality of life easier? Thanks Theresa!
When we moved here in 1990, my (French) husband used to ride his bike to work and this was considered absolutely eccentric. It was years before I ever saw anyone jogging or, God forbid, wearing sportswear in town. It suited me fine because I'm not that into exercise other than walking and hiking. There are plenty of ways to feel guilty now!
You're not kidding - the first year in France is basically a full-time job. If you buy a house, as we did, that stretches out to two years sans répit. Throw in passing the French driving theory and practical driving test to add torture to the agenda.
The first time we were in France in the 70s, jogging had become popular, and everyone seemed to be wearing bright blue jogging suits with a big white stripe down each side - though you hardly ever saw them moving any faster than a walk. I'd be remiss not to note, however, that France has a well developed history of running, with its Racing Club de France being formed in the 1880s.
I have an ordonnance from the neurosurgeon for muscle "re-education" with a kiné. Few and far between up here, and the one I ended up with didn't work out. After three appointments I gave up. I guess I've been spoiled by having had the good fortune to get my various bone and muscle misfires treated over the years by excellent PTs in the Seattle area, so perhaps my expectations were too high.
Thus, I'm looking southward to Rennes for a massage therapist and acupuncturist. My US health insurance generously funds both (50X per year each) anywhere in the world, so I don't need to bother with CPAM. When you have a chance, I'd be in your debt if you could send me contact info for your kino, acupuncturist and massage specialists.
Just saw that the winner of the 7th stage in Mûr-de-Bretagne is Tadej Pogacar, who reclaimed the yellow jersey. Malheureusement, his teammate Joao Almeida fell in the final kilometers.
I haven’t done yoga since the pandemic. I wonder if the two omneprezole I am required to take every day would counteract the quesies I get doing down dog
I'm looking forward to moving to France. I am not looking forward to replacing all those professionals that it has taken a decade to find and establish a professional relationships. It seems like that as soon as I find one, they retire, move, or leave my insurance group. My list in order of importance is as follows: a hairdresser that can cut and color my hair (monthly), my primary care physician, my dentist and hygienist, my eye doctor, and an exercise (movement) class with an instructor that understands the needs/limits of the over 65, female, body.
Theresa, how long did it take you to find 'your people' in (Rennes,) France???
I started with primary-care physician. Got an appointment early on. While I was there she told me she was retiring in a few months. Started that search over. I’d say that, it probably took close to 2 years to feel like I had everyone I really needed lined up. For a while I went to Paris because I couldn’t find anyone local who specialized in curly hair. I’m glad I finally found someone within walking distance.
You are a brave woman. Moving to France is one thing; enduring a beating and red circles on your face in the search for wellness is quite another!! 😂
Un rêve que je rêve de réaliser - une visite à Rennes, un café avec toi, et maintenant, du yoga à bord d'un bateau... Bien joué.
❤️

Enjoy your weekend!
I got a big belly laugh out of the "wellness center" that turned out to be a "happy ending" massage parlor!

Going upside down is not recommended in yoga if you have acid reflux, but there are modifications that might work for you.
